Self-Build and Professional Conversions

What to expect from a bespoke build, and where DIY costs more than it saves.

Self-Build and Professional Conversions

A good conversion is a spec sheet you wrote yourself. A bad one is an electrical system nobody can diagnose and a habitation door that leaks.

Professional builders cost more up front and hold value better. Self-builds save money only if you value your own time at zero.

Whichever route you take, get the gas work signed off and the 12V system documented. Insurers and future buyers will both ask.

Before you commit

  • Gas Safe certification for any LPG installation
  • DVLA body-type change if you want motorhome classification
  • Insulation and ventilation together — one without the other causes condensation
  • A labelled wiring diagram is worth its weight at resale
